Today, we were on the bus by 8:00am. As we were leaving Kavala, Melina explained some of the history to us.
When we arrived in Thessaloniki. Thessaloniki is Greece's second city and was founded in 315 BC. We drove past the Arch of Gelarius. When we pulled up, we went to a little cafe for a coffee.
We then walked down the street to see the ruins of Roman Agora where Paul once preached during the winter of 49-50AD and wrote the two epistles to the ancient Thessalonians.
We walked back up the street to celebrate Mass at the Church of the Immaculate Conception. This is a Catholic Church. We then went to the Basilica of St. Demetrios which is an Orthodox Church. Here, there are beautiful and very valuable mosaics and frescoes.
We then and got a chicken yeeros for lunch and continued on to the upper town to get a view of the city.
We then kept going on to the White Tower and from there made our way to Thessaloniki Airport to catch our plane to Athens. From Athens we had to catch a plane to Kos. This was not a good flight and the landing was even worse. The pilot managed to keep the plane on the tarmac after we hopped a few times down the runway!
Once we got to the Hotel, we had dinner. This was an unbelievable smorgasbord! You could even help yourself to some beautiful ice cream. Of course, I had a small scoop of mint and a small scoop of chocolate. The chocolate was unbelievable!
It was then time for bed!
